The history of Bachelor Program in Information Systems:

Department of Mathematics Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (then) Universitas Airlangga was established in 1982 along with three other departments, namely Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, and Department of Biology. The Department of Mathematics was formed based on the Decree of Directorate General of Higher Education No. 117/DIKTI/Kep/1984. In the Academic Year 2000/2001, Department of Mathematics had 2 programs, namely Bachelor Program in Mathematics and Three-Year Diploma Program in Information Systems. The Three-Year Diploma Program in Information Systems operated based on Decree no. 347/DIKTI/KEP/2000. The formation was based on the idea of the establishment of a faculty of technology at Universitas Airlangga. The Bachelor Program in Information Systems was established under the Department of Mathematics because of the proximity of these two disciplines in the clumps of science.

In 2008, the then Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences opened five new programs, three bachelor programs (Information Systems, Technobiomedics, Environmental Science and Technology), and two master’s programs (Biology and Chemistry). In line with this, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences changed its name into Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), based on Rector’s Decree no. 3294/J03/OT/2008. It was expected that the change would enable the faculty to accompany and support the vision of the university to be more competitive in the international level, particularly in the development of science and technology.
